Whatever It Takes

Work

I’m setting myself a goal of creating 50 projects in the next 52 weeks. That’s going to require a fairly ambitious one project a week pace.

I’ve had the idea of doing something like this at the back of my mind for quite a while now. I just needed an impetus to start, and I have found it.

What?

I am intentionally keep the definition of a ‘project’ fairly vague. It could be an open or closed source piece of software like a website, webapp or an iOS application. It could be a song that I put work into and finish. Or a set of paintings, or photographs, or a short film. Or even a recipe[n]. Any project that I work on in my spare time, that are not related to work projects.

I have ideas for some, but not all of the 50. I will be making this up as I go. I am open to new ideas and collaborations. Do email/messenger me if you think of something cool and want to see me build it.

I’ll post each one up on here, every Saturday, along with a short writeup. Nothing too fancy, just to document some of my thoughts and design ideas behind it.

Why?

I want to get into the habit of publishing work regularly. Partially for the sake of the habit itself, partially to get better at rapidly prototyping ideas. One week is the perfect length of time to design and execute on a short project.

A (kind of) wise person once said “without a goal, you can’t score”. This is that goal. A constant reminder to manage my time, so I can do more with it.

When?

The deadline to complete 50 projects is January 10th, 2017[n]. Yes, today was Day 1.

First project will be posted up this Saturday.

That's all for this post. Stay tuned.

  1. I do cook on occasion, not as much as my brother does though. He’s quite excellent at it. Check out his food blog. ↩︎
  2. This is not a New Year’s Resolution. I thoroughly hate the idea of New Year’s Resolutions. I’ve never been able to keep those. This is just a guy setting a long-term goal for himself that requires a lot of regular work. ↩︎
